Germany EURO 2024: plan the match cities before the hotels

Germany’s 2024 tournament offers a useful planning lesson: match dates, host cities and overnight stays belong on the same itinerary.

A tournament across ten host cities

UEFA EURO 2024 took place in Germany from June 14 to July 14, 2024. UEFA lists ten host cities: Berlin, Cologne, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg, Leipzig, Munich and Stuttgart. The opening match was in Munich and the final was in Berlin.

This is a historical guide, not a current fixture list, hotel-price study or customer booking story. UEFA’s official tournament record is linked below. The hotel-search lessons that follow are editorial advice for planning future trips.

Turn the fixture list into a night-by-night plan

For a future tournament, write down the city and date for each match you intend to attend. Then assign each night to the place where you will sleep. Search each stay with its own dates instead of treating a country-wide event as a single hotel destination.

If your itinerary depends on a team progressing, distinguish confirmed matches from possible later stops. Read the cancellation and payment terms before making a booking around a match you may not attend. Do not assume a hotel reservation can be changed for free.

Compare one base with moving between cities

A single base reduces hotel changes, while separate stays may shorten some journeys. Compare both using actual routes, journey times and the full accommodation and transport totals for your itinerary. Neither approach is automatically cheaper or more convenient.

Check current official transport schedules for the return after each match, not just the outward journey. Include the time needed to leave the venue and reach a station. Historical tournament transport offers should not be assumed to apply to a new trip.

Track each stay on its own terms

Keep dates and guest counts consistent across Hotelert searches and the booking provider. If you save unavailable hotels, make sure each saved stay belongs to the right city and dates. Email alerts require delivery to be enabled and do not reserve rooms.

When a room appears, verify the live total, occupancy and cancellation conditions before booking with the provider. Keep confirmation records and stop alerts you no longer need. These steps are planning suggestions, not claims that Hotelert secured rooms during EURO 2024.
